MF GC2300
Hey gang,

I am considering something a little more powerful than my MF GC2300. There's a Ford 1720, manafactured in 1986 with 2255 hours on it. They're asking $10,000 for it. I know nothing about this tractor (specifically or generically), but that price seems high. I'm pretty limited mechanically so would probably try to get a mechanic to take a look at it. Any thoughts or advice on this tractor / price / etc. would be appreciated. Thanks!

2 years ago I sold my 1990 Ford 1720 4wd with the Ford loader, 12x4 transmission and 1260 hours for $9500. I had repainted the tractor and everything worked. It's a good solid tractor that will pull a 5' brush hog. I upgraded to a 2120 New Holland. The pic is before paint.

The local dealer (Chappell) has a 1720 on the lot for $7,900. It is a 1987 with 3200 hours, new ag tires and rims and a 6' RFM. However, no loader. Your pricing might be just a little high.

Thanks you two for your responses. I was out of town for a couple days and didn't see the tractor when I went by tonight. Maybe someone took the decision from out of my hands. If not though, does anyone have opinions on how reliable, powerful, etc. the 1720 is? Any known weak points? Other advice?

Thanks for the help!

The 1720 is an excellent tractor. I ran a 1710 hard for many years and then upgraded to a 2120 in 1987 which I am still running hard. The 1720 is simply an upgraded 1710.
