Please help me with your advice.....I have found two very clean used Ford/NH tractors at separate dealers and would like help in deciding between them....any advice on which is better would be appreciated.... central NH woods, weekend warrior, hauling firewood from forest, hauling stone, etc.

very clean '97 NH 1920 with FEL (1100 hours) for $15K , vs.
super clean mid 90s Ford/NH 2120 with FEL (250 hours) for $20K....

both prices seem a tad high to me,,,,are they reasonable

I also found used Woods 9000 backhoe for $5K, but with frame brackets are for TC30, so I'd have to buy correct frame mounts from Woods to fit to either the 1920 or the 2120.

Many thanks, Fred

The prices might be a grand or two high each. The 2120 especially holds it's value extremely well. I've had one since 1987 that still runs very strong. I looked at getting a second one a couple of years ago and was quoted $18,000 for a one season lease return. I'm not sure they haven't gone up becaue of their popularity. The 2120 is a lot more tractor that the 1920. Given a choice I'd definately go for the 2120. Does it have the 12x12 HSS tranny? that's the one you want.

Thanks Andy.....what exactly is the "HSS" transmission???
it does have a Forward/Neutral/Reverse lever on the left side of the steering column. I'll have to call dealer about the 12x12?? what other types were available??

and what do you think about the Woods backhoe??

many thanks, fred

Yes the lever on the left of the steering column is the FR lever. The 12x12 has 3 ranges L,M,H and a 4 speed lever on the right side of the steering column giving you a total of 12 gears in both forward and reverse.. HSS stands for Hydraulic Shuttle Shift and allows you to go from forward to reverse without clutching. If I remember right the other trans is a 9Fx3R manual. It's a good transmission, but just not the HSS. Woods backhoes are excellent.

Both prices seem high.. though you can't go wrong with either tractor. The 1920 and 2120 are absolute tough as nails super hard workers.

I had a 1997 NH 1920 for a few years.. always had wanted a 2120 or a 3010s... ( ended up getting a tad larger in the end.. )

I paid 9500$ for my NH 1920 that was a couple years old, and had 6XX hours on it.. tires were 80%.. unit was straight and clean.. looked garage kept... got it at my local NH dealer.. it was 4wd with r1 tires, and had the 9x12 tranny. Onlt thing I ever did to it was change oil/filters and grease, anbd did change out the oem battery that was 5ys old, shortly before i traded the 1920 in.

Those prices sound high. 3 years ago I bought my 2000 NH 2120 HSS with a Woods 1020 loader for $15,500. It needed front tires and some paint. I looked for a deal for a year or so. A dealer quoted me a price for a demo 2120 with NH loader at the same time for $20,500 with low financing. I agree with the comment of the 2120 being much more tractor than the 1920. The 1920 is marginally bigger than a 1720. I sold a 1990 1720 with 1260 hours, Ford loader, new paint, good tires, 12x4 transmission for $9500 in 2003. Good luck.

I own a 2120 4x4 with a 12x4 trans , ford loader , bought it new in 1994 ? paid 24,ooo . It is a tough little tractor , but then I only have a hundred or so hours on it , no problems at all . I vote for the 2120 , espeially with less hours on it .
