Ford 1700

While looking at the TC30s I get a cheap attack and start thinking about the 1700 in the back of the lot. Does it make any sense to buy an 1800 hour, appears well kept, 1700 for $4300 and add a $3200 Woods 1009 loader?

Would prefer a 1710 or 20 but not finding many around. Primary use would be running a 4" chipper at half the price of a TC30. My brother is pretty happy with his 1710 on his 13 acres.

If the 1700 is 4WD and in good shape...to me...it makes perfectly logical sense...

Some people like warranties that come with new machinery...

I would also consider if I was financing or purchasing with cash...

0 % financing on a new machine will save some money if you need to finance the older 1700...

If I had the cash in hand to buy the 1700 I would buy it...

If I had the cash in hand to buy the TC30 I would buy it @ 0 % interest and put my money in an investment...

Bottom line...

Would you be satisfied with the 1700 and woods loader...

Only you can decide...

The 1700 is a good little tractor. I've seen them with over 3000 hours, but at that point they're pretty much done in. I'm rebuilding the engine on mine and expect to get a lot more years out of it in it's semi-retirement pulling a feed wagon. The only problem with them is finding parts, but that's a common problem with any older tractors.

Just FYI,

I bought my 1700 couple of months ago from a guy at work with 900 hrs and with no mechanical issues for $3100. I had no implement with it, so far bought KK bottom buster and a Carry all, took it to my place and ran it for 5 hours cleaning the place up. I really like it , plenty of power,easy to maneuver and only sips Diesel fuel. I reckon I might have had a good deal. I have turf tires and wished had AG tires, loosing traction trying to pull a little stump. This is my first tractor and have nothing to compare it, to but it seems like a very well built machine.

Thanks all. The 1700 I looked at started right up and idled smoothly with no smoke or obvious leaks. The used K's in the $8-10K range look pretty beat up compared with the 1700 which supposedly spent its time mowing. Sounds as if it is worth adding a new loader to it.

I know there are a lot of 1700, 10s, and 20s out there so I may just have to be patient.
