I have a 1998 NH 3930 with 160 hours. The serial number tag under the hood shows a 3.2L turbo engine with 60 gross hp. Can anyone tell me about this engine? i would like to know the PTO hp and were can i find further information. There seems to be very little info on these engines and even NH knows little about them:confused: . Most of these tractors were 45pto but they also were around 51hp gross. Based on this i'm assuming the 3.2L was stronger since it was 60hp gross.

thanks,

I have a 1996 3930 4WD with an eight speed shuttle shift. I have a New Holland North America owners manual for the 3230,3430,3930,4630and 4830. The specs indicate both the 3930 and 4630 as having a 201 cu. in 3 cylinder Ford engine. There is no mention of a turbo in the manual. The Nebraska test performed in 1990 lists the 3930 as 45.85 and the 4630 as55.41. I have another book that lists a 1998 4630 as having a turbo charger with 16forward and 8 reverse gears rated at 55 hp and a 1999 3930 with turbo but is still rated at 45 hp with 8 gear shuttle shift and 201 cu in.. I beleive 2001 was the last year of production. I think these tractors were manufactured in England and shipped all over the world. Do you know if it is a grey market because I have seen the 3930 grey markets listed at 51hp.

Not sure but I can tell you it has a serial number that falls in line with ones that are listed for our market. I'm assuming this means it's not a grey market tractor. Also, if you look at New Hollands parts listing on thier site they show the 3.2L turbo engine for 98 and 99 tractors. They also told me that all 3930's had to be turbo charged for 98 and later to meet new emmission standards for the US. Apparently, NH is not very good at documention as i have a 1971 4000SU that we purchased new but New Holland says the SU didn't start unitl the 4600 series. I made sure te tell them other wise and then they proceeded to admit some of the documents may not be up to date. Anyway, the tractor is next to new and considering i'm a nut about equipment history i'm trying to get my facts staight. Amazingly enough there is very little on the internet about later years 3930's. By the way, tractor data is know for mistakes and or leaving out chucks of specs for the tractors. Its a good start but falls way short of showing all the specs.

Thanks for your help!

professor,

By the way, what is the part number for the manual you have for your tractor? I contacted New Holland last week and they told me there is only one manual for all noncab tractors produced after 1994. I purchased this manual but it says the only engine that was used was a 192 non-turbo unit for the 3930.

I don't think New Holland really knows what type engines are in their tractors. The part number for my book is SE4824 (42323050) N. America. It covers the 3240,3430, 3930, 4630 and 4830. It lists the 3230 and 3430 with 192 cu. in., 3930, 4630 201 cu. in. and the 4830 with 256 cu. in engine. There is no mention of turos in this manual. My tractor has an oil bath cleaner which is mentioned in the manual along with the cannister type. Mine also has the plastic bowl type pre cleaner. I cracked it and it took three tries for the dealer to get the correct fit, it seems that there were many modifications made during their production years.

From Nebraska Tractor Test No. 1702S. 1998 NH 3930 FWA tractor, 192 cid turbo, observed PTO HP 52.54 at 2200 RPM. 1995 NH 3930, 192 cid naturally aspirated, test # S190, observed PTO HP 46.23 at 2200 RPM. For some really good Ford and NH historical books, go to diamondfarms.com. Click on the "General Store" tab, then "Farm Tractors/Machinery".

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!:)

I have spent three weeks trying to uncover this mystery. I'm normally pretty sharp at finding this stuff on the net but definitly failed this go around. I knew this tractor had to be stronger due to how it felt but just couldn't prove it. Thanks again for your help dgl24087.

By the way, how do you look up the Nebraska test number?

I see a 4630 as advertised with 60/55 eng/pto hp.. and same size displacement ( must be comp and smoke screw adjusted up? )

Any chance it was repowered?

I pulled the info from my Ford and New Holland library. You can go to www.tractortestlab.unl.edu and find test results as well. Older tests are a little hidden on the site, but a little browsing and you can find it.

The 3930 and 4630 have generally outperformed their advertised ratings.
