I'm jealous. That thing has the dual range transmission. My '69 2000 only has a single range 4-speed....probably only the upper 4 speeds of the dual range. Great little tractor with a very strong engine...BUT NO REAL FIRST GEAR :( (or second, for that matter).

Good on the road though.

Did I see an alternator on that tractor? Wonder if that's a retrofit? Thought the Thousand series Fords all had Lucas generators with a built in mechanical tach drive. Electrically they seem to be alright when the mice leave them alone.

You are spot on about the alternator, and so is Soundguy. The previous owner of that tractor switched the system over.

When the 6X series was first introduced in the fall of 1964, the 2000 was the 2000 Dexta, the 3000 was the 3000 Super Dexta, the 4000 was the 4000 Major, and the 5000 was the 5000 Super Major. At that time the 6000 was designated as the Commander 6000. Within a couple of years we were back to the basic 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 designations.
