Great forum and bulletin board. Would like input on troubleshooting my YR 2000 TC 40A but first some background. I purchased used with 920 hours and it has run fantastic?until recently. After doing some work I parked it in the building and the next morning it would not start. So I started troubleshooting and found Fuse #2 to be blown; I replaced the fuse and then there is pause > click 方 fuse pop / blow. Here is what I am thinking of doing for troubleshooting:

1) Check seat safety switch: I did try to 吐ool the tractor by setting the brake but what concerns me is during this last time out in the field the safety switch popped out of the holder and I知 wondering if the wiring got crimped with all the bouncing around.

2) Check fuel solenoid by pulling off wire and try to start to see if fuse blows. If fuse blows it is the solenoid?

3) Fuel filter: I keep the tank at least ス full so I don稚 think this is the problem; plus I do not think this would cause the fuse to blow.

4) Battery: Not sure if this is the problem; I致e had to jump a couple of times but there is minimal corrosion and the terminals are clean.

Should I put a 10A fuse in to see if that works?

Any additional help would be appreciated but at this point I am leaning towards either item #1 or #2.

Going down to the farm this weekend to troubleshoot; will post my results here.

Thanks in advance.

#1: If your seat switch is shorted, it would not cause the problem. A shorted switch is just like you sitting in the seat and causing the switch to close. If the switch is grounded to the seat frame or other ground, then you might have a problem.

#2: That's an easy thing to check. there is only a single spade connector on the fuel solenoid and it is easy to disconnect. You don't even have to try and start the tractor. If this is your problem, fuse #2 will blow as soon as you turn on the ignition switch.

Do you have a 10 amp fuse or will you have to buy one? I found recently that Autozone has resettable circuit breakers in carded packages hanging with their other fuses in the store display. I'd try to get a 10 amp CB to replace the 8 amp fuse.

I would try the 10 amp fuse or breaker with the solenoid disconnected. If the fuse holds, then connect the solenoid and try again. If the PTO light illuminates, then you may need a solenoid. If not, you are back in business.

I have a brand new fuel solenoid in my tractor and the fuse still pops from time-to-time. I replaced the fuse with a CB, so I expect that will be my long-term solution.

Jinman,

Thank you for the quick response. I will definitely check to see if the seat switch wires are shorted or rubbed.

For the second item, I want to confirm that if I disconnect the spade connector on the solenoid and Fuse 2 still pops then the solenoid is the problem? Or what else might it be?

Thanks !!

No, if you disconnect the solenoid and the fuse pops, the solenoid is NOT the problem. If the fuse pops when you connect the solenoid, then the solenoid might be bad.

Went down to the farm and first thing I did was try and jump the tractor...started right up. Went out and used it for a couple of hours and them parked it. After this I tried to start it and it popped the fuse; replaced fuse and jumped fine. Looks like a bad battery...appreciate all of the help!!

I hope that new battery solves your problem. My tractor has been having what sounds like similar symptoms to yours. It sometimes will not start when hot. The starter solenoid clicks, but doesn't make good contact. It was blowing fuse #2 pretty often. After putting a circuit breaker in place of the fuse, it solved the blown fuse problem, but sometimes I have to hit the starter several times before the solenoid makes contact and the motor spins. There is a good chance that you are experiencing something similar. I expect to have my starter rebuilt before too long. I think the solenoid contacts need to be burnished as a minimum.

Good luck with your tractor. At least you know what is working for now. Maybe a new battery will solve it. I have an Optima sealed lead-acid battery in my tractor and it still seems to be strong.

Just want to say thanks to Jinman and others - my TC40D wouldn't start.
I played with it for an hour or so, then spent 10 minutes on the web, and found the answer (of course) here. This board is a great resource.

THanks again!
