TC45D/16LA Ballast

I recently aquired a TC45 with 16LA loader. Rear turf tires are filled with Calcium. Despite this I still find the tractor light in the rear when working with the loader. Does anyone know what the recommended weight would be for adding ballast on the 3pt hitch? Thanks!

I'm not sure if NH has any ballast spec for the 3PH. I think they recommend wheel weights. I just keep my boxblade on the rear. With loaded tires and the boxblade, I never have a ballast problem when doing loader work.

Welcome to TBN. I hope you enjoy your TC45D. It's interesting that you have turf tires on it. I don't ever think I've seen a TC45 with turfs.

I use my big manure bucket from my TN75 on my TC (quick attach), it holds about 2/3 of a yard.
I can actually load it with enough sand (sand is heavy) to stall the loader.
Which means it's at 1650lbs (which is all the loader can lift)
and I rarely work with anything on the back, just the loaded tires. It can be a little tippy when it's heaped full with something heavy (1600+lbs), but that's a much bigger bucket than the usual 1/2 yard bucket.

I have a TC 40 with a 16LA and loaded R4 tires. I have the same trouble if I don't have something attached to the hitch. If the work space allows, I attach my medium duty 6' blade when i do a lot of heavy loader work. The blade weighs about 400lbs and this seems to help a great deal.

i just bought a tc45da, it has 2 wheel weights per rear wheel which i think weigh 100 pounds each. will this be enough or should i get the tires loaded ?

my tires are loaded but you can definately tell when i don't have my 1000lbs flail on the back or my backhoe...

i'd just stick an attachment on the back; box blade, scraper blade, etc....

if not a enough, there are some threads on here where people make their own ballast boxes with concrete, etc...

I recommend getting the rear tires loaded. I resisted for many years having my rears loaded and several times had the rear tires in the air. Since I loaded my rear tires, I can't remember a single problem. I believe loaded tires adds over 800 lb to the rear wheels and that weight is not carried on the rear axle like any other kind of ballast unless you are in a situation where you need it (ie, holding down the rear). Then, the weight is felt on the rear axle as downward pressure, which is what you want.

Another benefit of loading the rear tires is that you will be able to do alot of work in only 2wd instead of 4wd, saving wear on the front end, tires, turf, etc.

This is an eternal debate, many just don't like loaded tires.

I have 3 tractors with loaded tires. My compact NH tractor scared the bejeebers out of me without loaded tires (I was pulling a wagon downhill, never mind the loader use!!!) and I have been driving tractors of all sizes for over 30 years, own 7 now. I had the tire fella out the next day & loaded them, much much better tractor ever since.

My 85 hp tractor has fluid in all 4 tires - no loader, the front end gets light pulling things, and I use the 3pt pretty good with picking up round bales, etc. As well I run this tall tractor through road ditches & hills round baling. It is nice to have it solidly on the groundwith the fluid on all 4 tires. The front tires probably hold as much fliud as some compacts....

you can go up to 600 pounds on a draw bar 3 point hitch
