My brother-in-law is the proud owner of a used Ford 1510 that was abandoned in the Bahamas. At least we think it's a 1510. The numbers on the hood are unreadable. He got a manual for it that says 1510, but was told that it might not go with that tractor.

Is there any easy way to tell a 1510 from a 1310? We are not anywhere near it now, so we need something simple to tell a friend on the spot. Are there any obvious things to check (i.e. is the wheelbase different, or some other obvious difference that someone non-mechanically inclined could check)? There is a fair amount of corrosion. The loader serial numbers were unreadable, so I'm assuming the tractor's would be as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All I have is a 1996 brochure with the 1320 & 1520 in it, but it appears that you go from 16" to 24" rear wheel diameter, if they are ags. The spec lists the 2wd 1320 as having 6.5x10 fronts vs the 1520 having 5x15. 4wd 1320's have 6x12 fronts and 1520's have 6x14. Both 2 & 4wd 1320's have 16" rears, and both 1520's have 24" rears. Remember to say this is the steel wheel diameter, not the rubber. I'd still check the fronts if they were turf tires.

Length & wheelbase are the same for these two. They both have 3 cyl engines, 9/3 gears (or HST). The 1320 is 77.4 cubic inches and the 1520 is 81.2 cubic inches. Usually all tags are stamped, so wire brushing and then a wipe of something dark like ink, oil, grease, or fine dirt can make them show up, if there is anything there at all.

The only other noticeable thing is that the 1320 has 9.8" of ground clearance, and the 1520 has 11.2-11.6" under the transmission.

Can anyone tell where the tractor #'s are? Rear axle, like the old ones?

Thanks for the info, Mark. The wheel diameter is just the type of thing I needed. I have a brochure for 1720/1920/2120/3415, but nothing for the smaller sizes.

I'm betting the wheel sizes are similar for 1310 & 1320, and for 1510 & 1520. Anybody out there know different?
