1979 Ford 1700 4WD. Last time I used it, the freeze plug between the glow plugs blew out. I bought a new set of freeze plugs, replaced the missing plug using hitack sealer during installation and about 1/16 of the land showing. I let the tractor sit 3 hours so sealant could set up. Replaced anti-freeze and started the tractor with radiator cap off and after 5 minutes or so plug#2 also left the engine. Suggestions?

are you saying a newly replaced plug let go.. or another old one.

Not uncommon to have multiple plugs fail near same time if they are all same age. If i see a freeze plug with a rust hole.. I usually like to repalce all of them.. if ones weak.. the others -MAY- be as well.

post back.

if a new plug.. did you dimple it with a ballpeen hammer to set it once in place?

Newly replaced plug let go. Did not dimple, have not worked with this style freeze plug before. How many dimple should I use?

Is this a 'freeze plug' or 'core plug' ?

Freeze plugs are cup shaped and don't require dimpling.

Core plugs are almost flat like a coin with a slight concave/convex shape. These require dimpling.

that to all who replied to my first post. The link helped me replace the plug and mow without an early plug exit:D:)

I may have the same problem, need advice. I just started my 1700 and while changing implements and letting it idle, the guage went to hot. I lifted the hool and saw what looks to be antifreeze comming from between the gas tank and the rear of the engine. My question, is there a freeze plug or a core plug there? I can not see it without taking the tank off. Where did you get your plugs?
