Hi Guys,

I just picked up a Ford 3000. I notice the tach cable is unhooked at the generator end. Apparently the generator was replaced and the new unit does not have a tach drive on it. The generator is a Lucas C40A. There is only a rubber plug on the end. It doesn't look like I can convert this to use with the tach drive since there is no shaft coming out of it. Any ideas? I'd like to not have to replace the generator just to have the tach work, but it bugs me.

Thanks,
Brad

there should have been a tach drive screwed to the back of the gen.. common on the 65-75 models

Thanks for getting back to both of my posts. I'm guessing the generator was replaced with an incorrect one that does not have the tach drive or the worm gear required to turn it. Thanks again.

you can buy the tach drive .. but you need to know if YOUR gen is a compatible model to the oem tach drive.

I believe this is one number for a lucas C5NF17B282B

Tach Drive - Generator Tach Drive Assembly For all C7NN10000C generators on 2000, 2110, 3000, 3400, 3550, 4000, 4200, 4400, 4500, 5000, 5200, 6000, 7000, 8000. (

should replace a Lucas 22756

'bout a 30$ part before shipping.

Off the top of my head.. I don't know the lucas number of the proper generator.. someone like rickb will likely know.
