New to tractors and implements and am helping a friend with maintenance.
1. What type/weight oil should be used in a Bush Hog brand mower?
2. Tractor has 2 drain plugs side by side under engine. Are both of these for the crankcase?

Re: Questions on maintenance?

I like to know a little more about what I'm working on!

The Bush hog should take gear oil, 80-90 for most all gear boxes.

You would be best served by getting manuals for the equipment in question.

The tractor is a Ford New Holland 1920 4wd. This equipment belongs to a vet friend that I am trying to help out. I agree he needs to purchase manuals.

Re: Questions on maintenance?

The BH will take 80W90 Gear Oil.

As for the tractor go to the NH forum on here and ask the questions on the 1920 to get specific info.

1920 4WD has two motor oil drain plugs. Trans\rearend has two drains. Front axle one drain in center. Final drives one drain each on botton. One drain on power steering. Engine uses motor oil. Everything else Ford 134 or equal.

add to that that the motor oil should be a 'c' rated oil probably 15w40 unless you are in either extremes of temps.
