looking to add a backhoe attachment to my Ford 3400.

Your best bet would be to try and find a 3400 that already has the backhoe but maybe has some other issues with the tractor itself.
If you can buy it cheap enough, you can just take the backhoe off of it.
If you are trying to build one yourself, that is going to be a tough task. Because the 3400 was an industrial tractor with a pretty large and strong backhoe compared to ones you gan get on smaller CUT's today.
You figure that it has 7 hydraulic cylinders on it, even if you can find them for $200 each, that still $1500 with tax and then shipping. You'll probabally have a good $300-400 in a valve body, another 300-400 in hoses, not to mention you havent even figured steel, fabrication, pins and busings, etc.
Again, your best bet would probabally be to buy a donor. Out of curiosity, where are you located at??? Because a guy about a 1/2 mile down the road from me has a 3400 TLB out front for sale. I believe it has transmission issues, but the whole thing can probabally be had for less than you can build a backhoe for.
