I searched and couldnt find my answer. I wanted to change my steering fluid and got the flud I needed thanks to you guys on here. I pulled the covers off and I read on here that there is a filter for the steering. I couldnt find one. I was also looking for a drain plug and couldnt find that either. I found what I thought was the fill plug on the top front of the steering box. am I missing something?

wow, i cant believe i missed that. lol. thanks for the print.

I decided to do a fluid replacement because it has 1200hrs and probably has never been done and it has been a little noisy when steering.

so can I drain the fluid by cracking one of the hoses?

i don't have a manual for that model.. that PS diagram i just lifted from the NH website.

RickB is likely WAY more familiar with that model than I am... last 'new' NH tractor I have is from 2000 :)

I think #23 in Soundguy's diagram is the drain plug. I changed my filter and fluid but I didn't try to get all the old fluid out of the lines. IIRC that filter should have been replaced at 600 hours. :)
Dave.

Soundguy gave you the details of the part. The reservoir is the filter and it unscrews from the base after draining the fluid as Dave noted. However, it's going to be a messy job even after draining, so have plenty of paper towels/rags handy if you decide to change the filter instead of just the fluid. The filter/reservoir is around $85 I believe. I admit that I've never changed mine and I don't think that is uncommon. Although I would not recommend that others follow my lead on this, I plan to change out the filter around 2000 hours.

I figured out why I didnt see the filter. there isnt any. the hard lines go from the cylinder to the steering box and from the pump to the steering box. no filter. I have a picture hold on.

:laughing::laughing: You are gonna say, "DOH!"

Look at the photo below. The white arrows start on the left at the PS pump. That pipe comes out of the PS pump and goes to the left and up. Just behind your air filter it goes into the PS reservoir/filter. That is the supply line to your hydraulic pump. The hard lines you are seeing come from the steering column motor and go to the PS cylinder, but the supply to your pump comes from the reservoir that is just to the left of where you shot this photo. The top of it is about the same level as the engine oil filler cap.:D
