Ford Model 1920
Hello all and thank you for your help ahead of time. Hubby got hold of this he believes is a 1995 Ford 1920. Can someone tell me what the fuses go to (so I can "act like I know" what I am talking about). I think there are 3 of them in the box? Also when he got it... the key wouldnt start it, so I pulled him on it and we got it started. Then he tried the key immediately after and it worked. He then found some ground wires under it that were sparking so he fixed them. Now the key will not start it again, so I pulled him and it starts in about 5' of being pulled, he had it setting there running and the key just fell out. Is the starter bad? I think someone has tried to start it with anything they could get into the key hole at one time as it sat on a parking lot for quite awhile. He has no manual or nothing to go by except what I read on this very helpful board.

One other thing, It runs GREAT but you can be riding it around and it just dies like the key was just shut off???????

Any help will be appreciated, and I will tell you you all helped me out:thumbsup:

Thank you again!

It sounds like you have a problem with the ignition switch. On the 1029 models the ignition switch will turn the engine on and off. A short in the switch could cause this. Also I would check the batery cables at the battery and the positvie cable at the starter nd the ground to make sure all are making a good connection. Have you load tested the battery to see if it is OK.

My 1720 would die just as you're describing and it drove me NUTS for about a day before I finally found that the connector on the wire going to the fuel shut off solenoid was losing contact. The wire has a female spade connector end and one side of the connector had broken off. I replaced the connector on the end of the wire and haven't had the problem again.

I am not at home but the ignition switch should have a ring on the outside you can turn counterclockwise and the switch can be removed.
