Turns over good, cleaned plugs, replaced wires, new cap, rotor, and condenser, new coil. rebuilt carburetor when I got it. quit running 5 days ago. sprayed WD 40 into wireing and cap, cleaned out good. and it started and run all day. Restarted just fine in between breaks. next day it won't hit a lick. Any Ideas guys.

Why did you undertake the ignition work? Have you done anything odd with fuel lately (old batch, mixed old with new, etc.)? Have you checked the compression?

The old 55 model had points,, unless you changed it over.. pull the cap and see if your points are firing,, if not start tracing it back... that the first thing I would check on an old 55.. Lou

first things first.

check spark at all 4 glugs.. should be blue and snappy. plugs gap at .025.

if no spark, check power to coil by hotwireing coil. if still no spark.. put test lamp inline with coil, run starter. lamp should blink. if it never comes on.. you have an open. could be bad points.. could be the conductor from side of dizzy to points broke. look at poitns. of pitted and burned. check condensor... might be open.

if it stays lit.. points are shorted. common area is the feed thru insulator on side of dizzy, slipped points.. and less commonly.. shorted condensor.

points gap at .025

if spark is good.. move on to fuel / air / compression

post back some details.
