Boomer 50 Down

Hello, I recently bought a brand new 2013 Boomer 50 with all the bells and whistles. I used it a handful of times to clear snow from my driveway and cut 7 acres of grass twice. Today I had gravel delivered to the house to top my driveway. I worked the tractor pushing stone around for about 2 hrs, then the machine started acting goofy. Surging and stalling. I got it back to the barn and it died again, this time the oil pressure light came on, cranked and fired a couple times running for about a minute each time now .the machine wont start, wont even crank over. I checked all the fluids and changed the oil filter hoping maybe it was clogged. Nothing, still the same dead worthless machine. I am furious considering the tractor has 30hrs and i paid so much for it. It does have a warranty but ill have to eat the cost to get the machine moved up to the dealership. Has anyone else had the same issue with their Boomer series?

Sounds like bad alternator or electrical issue to me. Reason I say this is that it should at least turn over. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Changed the oil filter?? I hope you mean changed the fuel filter for those symptoms.

The oil pressure light will come on because you said the engine died, and thus the if engine stopped turning the oil pump did too, so the pressure went down and turned the light on.

You are going to have to give more details on what you were doing and what happened when it stopped. It really sounds like a fuel problem. Did you get bad fuel? Didn't winterized it and it solidified? Water in the fuel filter? Have you checked the fuel filter bowl to see what it looks like?

It sounds to me like you have a fuel delivery issue and then kept cranking it to attempt to restart it until the battery died, and now it won't even turn over.

Charge the battery and look at the fuel filter bowl and report back.

It does have a warranty but ill have to eat the cost to get the machine moved up to the dealership.

I'd check on that, my dealer sends a field service truck for free during the warranty period. And if they need to bring it into the shop they pick it up for free.
Do a few simple things first. I'd look at the bottom of the fuel filter bowl with a flashlight for contamination or water. If it's hard to see, pull the bowl and check it. Crack the valve while the bowl's off to make sure fuel flows freely from the tank. Make sure the vent in the fuel tank cap isn't plugged. I'd also pop the air filter and make sure some rodent didn't make a nest in there while you weren't looking. Don't use the starter for long periods of time while you're diagnosing, don't want to damage it.

Battery is still at 12v. Starter shows 12v at terminals. I don't think it's a fuel issue, but I'll throw one on if I can get it cross referenced. Seems like a sensor to me. Oil or safety switch not letting it crank now

I've not heard of oil pressure switch being in the starting circuit, don't see how that could work since you don't have any oil pressure until it starts. I'd jump the starter to make sure it cranks, make sure it's in neutral and brake on. If it does, check fuses then each of the usual safety culprits: PTO not engaged, HST neutral position, seat switch hasn't fallen off, etc. If there's nothing obvious, start jumpering switches one at a time.

It's just strange to me that when it did crank and run for minutes at a time that you had to wait a few minutes before it would attempt to crank again.

12V is a pretty dead battery. Does it click and chatter -- or not even try to turn. What V does it hold to when you turn the key?

I pulled every fuse all good jumped the tractor battery with my truck nothing different. Tinkered with all the saftey devices hst pedal parking seat sensor pto switch. I'm so aggravated ill jump the starter solenoid this afternoon but I'm at a loss and getting farther away from my orginal problem. That happened when the tractor was already running.

There is a main disconnect right at the starter and if it is loose NO power goes to the tractor. It is a single white wire to the starter on my unit. Our local dealership uses it as a anti theft device and now I do too. Check the large white wire going into the starter and see if the male/female clip is properly attached.

Plugs are all connected tightly every where on the entire harness. The starter spun the engine when I jumped the solenoid but would not fire. I'm done screwing with this thing messed my whole weekend up. Time to use that warranty. Hopefully this isn't a continuing headache with this particular tractor. I'll update the status when I get it to and back from the dealership. Thanks for the input.

The dealership ended up taking the machine to there shop free of charge. It was the safety device harness underneath the body was messed up. Took them six hours to finally find the problem. All is well now. Back to work it goes.

So it was a wiring thing? My Boomer 8N has a whole bunch of wires and connectors under the 'platform' that I can see but can't touch.

It starts and runs but won't move.

I started trying to get at these wires but I could see it was going to be fairly complicated for one person.

Tractors run by computers is a bad idea if you ask me.
