2013 NH Boomer 40
I have a 2013 Boomer 40 with 140 hours, I purchased it used about 6 weeks ago.

I have not been able to get grease into the steering arm grease zerks (see photo). Same problem on both sides. All other zerks work fine.

Given that this is happening on both sides and no where else on the tractor I suspect I may be doing something wrong.

Anyone else have this problem, or better yet a solution?

Am I safe using the tractor until I figure this out, or does it need immediate attention?

This is my first tractor and I am a bit of a novice here, hopefully this is just something I don't understand.

Clean up the zerk and make sure the little ball in top of zerk will depress. May just be plugged with paint. If not plugged, you can always unthread it replace with a new fitting and see if that helps.

Lift the front wheels just off the ground with the FEL. Move the steering wheel left and right, 3/4 turn, return to center.

Try again.

Are you using a full size grease gun? Are you using a Coupler to link your grease gun to the zerk?

No greasing issues require "immediate" action. Relax.

Thanks,

Jeff I already tried lifting the front wheels and moving the steering back and forth, that didn't work. And I have been getting the zerks real clean, but didn't try depressing the ball. I'm using a DeWalt battery powered grease gun, it develops lots of pressure but the grease just comes out the pressure relief valve. Works fine on all but these 2 zerks.

Headed out of town now, but I will try replacing the zerks when I get back.

If any of the zerks that do work are the same size as those that don't, try to swap them for a quick test.

Well now I'm confused. I took the grease zerks off and they were under pressure, they started oozing grease as they loosened and then popped off when unthreaded. Then lots of grease came out the hole. This was a week after I had last tried to grease them, they were still under pressure.

I cleaned the zerks up and put them back on and tried greasing again. They took some grease, about the amount that came out and I could see the steering arm rise a little indicating that the grease was getting into where it was supposed to be.

However no grease came out the bottom and applying more grease just over pressured the grease gun and sent grease out the pressure relief valve.

So I can see that the zerks work fine, I am just used to seeing grease ooze out the other side of whatever it is I am trying to get grease to. I can see some old grease there, kind looks like some may have oozed out long ago, but not today. Of course I am not real sure how that grease got there.

This is happening exactly the same way on both the left and right side, and happens on no other grease zerks on the tractor. What do y'all think, am I expecting too much or does this sound like a problem.

I do appreciate all the advice so far, and I've tried most of what was suggested. It has at least helped me focus on where the problem is, now I have to figure out if its really a problem.
