Just replaced head gasket on Ford 3cyl Lpg fuel New Holland tractor.
will not start.
I have done the following;

Adj.valves ,verify fuel delivery
Verify tdc of each cyl when adjusting valves.
Some one had distributor out thought it might be off a tooth so reset again with #1@tdc and timing mark at flywheel at 0, rotor at #1 terminal on cap.
Still no start. I should add that I am bypassing
Ign. circuit by direct hot wire to coil and just using key to start.found two wires on cap
switched put them in proper order big back fire (fuel delivery and spark ok )
It has to be ign timing .How do I set it
What have I missed?
Tractor engine turns over very fast with 8D batt.tries to start, just will not catch
Thanks

Did you bleed the air from fuel pump to injector right at the injector? I take it that you might not have diesel engine, right?

Hi JC-jetro, thanks for the reply you are right the tractor is not diesel, but liquid propane.

Sorry, don't have much experience with liq gas driven engine and type of carburation, fuel injection other than a fork lift at our facility that runs on Propane. How would you check for fuel delivery confirmation and ignition?

A backfire tells me the cyl is getting fuel,no fuel no fire it also says I am getting spark no spark no backfire

How about valve timing when you changed the head? do you have overhead cam? chain or gear driven camshaft?

Firing order is 1,2,3 cc rotation on engine(as viewed from tractor seat) and rotor is also cc How do I set the distributor to gain proper ign. timing?

A backfire isn't conformation of proper fuel and spark delivery so don't think it is. I use starting fluid on LP engines to see if it fires. Lets get some background on you and your tractor. How much experience do you have with point ignition engines. How well do you understand LP carburation and have you adjusted anything? How long have you owned tractor while it ran right, had good power, started easy and didn't smoke? Why was it necessary to replace head gasket? Has it ever overheated? If you don't have a manual, buy one. Tractor Supply sell's IT manuals that will get you through most things. Auto parts stores sell a clear plastic spark tester about the size of a C cell battery that I highly recommend instead of arcing spark to ground. If you don't have a compression guage and timeing light, borrow them from parts store. Good and consistant compression on all cyls confirm's valves are closeing. After getting it started, readjust valves while idleing after engine is at operating temp. Sorry to ask so many questions and not answer yours but we will get to that.
