Who owns a 1720?

I've got a 1920 and I'm not sure what the exact differences are from a 1720.

Owned one for 13 years until last winter when I got my TC-40D. Sold the 1720 to my dad and he loves it as much as I did. Never had a single problem with it, but just wanted something with a little more horsepower. I had the 1720 with 4wd, the 12x12 shuttle shift and 2-stage clutch/live PTO.

Re: 1720 vs 1920

1720 = 27.7 HP, 3 cyl (91.3 cu. in) engine, 121" long, ~2700#
1920 = 33.3 HP, 4 cyl (121.7 cu in) engine, 126" long, ~3070#
(I've got the brochure, if you want more specs)

The 1720 is close to the current TC29, the 1920 is close to a TC40
Both are very nice tractors.

Todd,
John did an excellent job of compairing our tractors. You might like to look at this site if you have not already. It
has a lot of infor on our tractors and others. Since I bought my 1720 used, I didn't know what year it was made. I found out on this site. http://www.tractortips.com/default.asp

Take care,
Donald

I have a 1720, 4x4, with the 12 spd shuttle and 7308 loader, it is 1 yr old with under 100hrs. I love the tractor, but I am a little dissapointed with the lift capacity of the 7308.

By the way if you compare tractor spec's the 1720 is equal to atleast the TC 33 and maybe TC-35.

HI. Purchased a NH1720 two years ago and now have about 155 hrs on it. No problems except for a antifreeze leak. Love it. Mostly used for snow removel, brush hogging and hauling wood. Also the very frequent tractor rides for the family. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Never had a tractor before so I have nothing to compare lifting capibilities to or anything else.
It has done everything I've asked it to and more./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Take care,
Al

The only difference between the TC29 and TC33 is HP, and both have more than the 1720. The overall length of the 1720 is closer to the TC35 than the TC29/33. The wheelbase and weight are closer to the TC29/33. The standard Ag tires are the same for the TC29/33 and 1720. From the brochure:

............ TC29/33 1720 TC35
HP.......... 29/33 27.7 35
Length.... 106.2 121 125
Wheelbase 63.0 65.0 73.5
Weight.... 2474 2690 3096 (3252 for TC35D)

(Not sure about the overall length figure on the TC29. seems short, especially compared to wheelbase and to the TC18 which is 106.3" I've wondered if that's a typo, but not enough to go out and measure it)

I don't see where the 1720 is closer to a TC35. But I do think it's one hell of a tractor. I would have bought one on the used market, if I could have found one in good shape. I could see the comparison to a TC33... while the 1720 has lower HP, it gets that at a lower RPM than the TC29 or 33, and the displacement matches the TC33D.

I am a little disappointed with the lift capacity of the 7308...

Good to know. If I can ever rake together enough $$$ I hope to get a FEL.

Re: 7308 Lift Capacity

I am a little disappointed with the lift capacity of the 7308

That's why I went with the Woods model 1012 loader on my TC33D... heavier lift capacity, and larger rollback and dump angles
