    Cub Cadet 1450

Default New to forum, and new to tractors.

    Hello TBN,

I just bought my first ever tractor, it's a 1979 IH Cub Cadet 1450. It is purely a toy, as I am willing to bet I am the member with the least amount of yard to maintain. I live in town and will have 4 ft between my house and side fences. My current house (moving next month) has a driveway sheltered from the prevailing winds by the house, so even a light snow with any wind will pile it up high. For years I have fantasized about having a skid steer or something to make this more fun. Two winters ago we got a huge amount of snow, and I came dangerously close to buying an old Bobcat 463 that I found for sale. I eventually restrained myself.

Skip ahead to a few months ago, and I stumbled upon the P. F Engineering loader plans for a garden tractor. That was it, my restraint was gone, I ordered the plans and bought a candidate tractor. So at my new house I will no longer have the driveway issue and my previously thin excuse to own a tractor will be completely gone. Now the challenge will be seeing if I can make the tractor fit into my back yard, and coming up with jobs for it that will convince the wife it was a miracle that we ever lived without one. :-)

I hope it will eventually replace my snowblower, wheelbarrow, trailer dolly, lawn mower, and engine hoist. So if anyone has any suggestions about how to build a mower for a Cub Cadet with a loader, or what would be the best area to post questions in, I'm all ears.

    Cheers,
    Charlie
