Why do some of you folks give your response in the form of a PM or e-mail instead of putting it right in the related thread ?

Why not post it and share the info ?

And to top it off, you post in the same thread that you sent the OP a PM.

Almost teasing ""HaHa, I'm not going to tell anybody else how to do it""

How flipping rude.

My last PM was to give a fellow TBNer, who lives nearby, my address and phone # so he could see my thumb setup before he bought his own. I just figured my personal info was not something I wanted to post.

People are free to respond however they see fit and since you don't know why they sent a PM, you have no idea if it's being rude or not.

I don't usually answer in the open forum anymore. I prefer PM or e-mail. After 32 years in my trade, 19 as an enforcement agency, I get tired of the ridiculous comments made about my answers. I would like to think I know what I'm talking about, but I just won't post it here anymore. It's too bad the original poster gets more wrong info than good useful answers.

It's a shame Inspector.Where else could you have an electrical inspector at your diposal. I know I would hate to lose such a valuable resource because of others ignorance. I have always injoyed you sharing your experience and and knowledge. Please keep sharing.

For me, it all depends if the question put to me more appropriately deserves a public or private response. 96.3% of publicly asked questions do deserve a publicly posted response... but some hit a little too close to home and/or would require the posting of confidential information such as client names or their business names or specific jobsite identifiers. For me, that is a definite no-no.

Often, I have personal and private conversations going on at the same time on the same subject. Sometimes folks accidentally leave the private for the public venue without even thinking... or perhaps before reading the private reply already sent. Sometimes they need to be reminded.

Lastly, I hate to re-post boring or loosely relevant detail stuff more than 2 or 3 times... so if someone asks a question that has already been repeatedly addressed... particularly when the thread has reached a logical end point... I go private mainly just to spare other folks a useless repeat message. :)
