WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE THOSE SLOW-TO-LOAD MULTIPLE ADS AT THE TOP OF OUR PAGES? There are many of us on dialup connections.

If you want us to buy your tractors, don't load up our screens with those slow-to-load ads. Was one by JD. Now, there's one by MF.

Like Shane said $$$. If they weren't here, neither would TBN or we would have to pay for it. I don't know the numbers, but I can only imagine what the bandwith cost alone is. Let alone the hardware costs as well as the host costs from the data center where TBN is hosted.

Technology is fun, but it ain't cheap.

This site doesn't magically appear without work on somebody's part. It isn't a government entitlement either. You see. People WORK to put up the site. In turn, MONEY is EARNED by those who WORK, via advertising. Quit whining. Get high speed internet or tough it out. Everything I've learned on this site is priceless...and didn't cost me a thing other than time.

Wow, you guys are harsh!

There is a very nice gentleman named Mohammed that started this site and wrote the book (literally) on how to buy your first tractor. (you can still buy it here, too) He put in long hours of effort for many years and I imagine it was a labor of love. Certainly, there were no ads back in 2000 when I joined, so I don't think he had any $ coming in.

After all of that effort, this fine site is the result. I for one, don't mind them even though they do take some of my time for them to load. It's the price of participation - and a small one for such a great place to talk tractors. Also, I think it's a fitting reward for the person that put in the effort to get some benefit. Don't we all want some benefit from our efforts?

Enjoy the site (and maybe try decaf...)

When those ads first started to apear, they were VERY annoying, but after awhile they changed. Now I don't even notice them as the rest of the screen will load right away without waiting for the ad to do it's thing. The ones with the moving tractor on them were the worse!!!!!!

I fully support the owners of the site making money on the site and hope they do well with it. The ads are how they make money, which is needed to keep this site up. I even click on the ads from time to time. LOL

Those adds are here for the same reason my customers pay a few bucks of their bill to cover my cost of advertising. You can either spend a few seconds waiting for the adds to load, or spend a few minutes at a daily job earning money to pay for the priviledge of using this site. I don't mind the adds. I EXPECT the adds. (But then, I have high speed internet service ;))

I don't do it but if you use the SeaMonkey browser, you can turn all of that off. All you have to do is click on "Toggle permissions for images" at the bottom of the page. I am sure you can with Firefox also which is from the same company. After using SeaMonkey, I can't understand why anyone would use Explorer.
I have never had problems with the adds, but those in line pictures are a different story. I hate them.

id much rather support the guys that maintain the forums with a few bucks than to have a site filled with adds.

but then again i dont have flash installed on firefox so i see no adds so i guess it really doesnt matter to me....

other than they sit back and make money off the site but whatever...

if i was you id do what i do.

Keep IE in a fully functional browser, and load Firefox without flash, and with addblock. For sites that require flash you can always load them in IE (or use the lauch into IE button that you can put on the firefox toolbar)

that way your browseing on dialup will be much quicker.

For the ultimate in quick browseing on dialup, lookinto spoofing a web-enabled cell phone with WML browser. (done through firefox plugins)

some sites support WML broswer and you will get a text only version which is super quick. and for forums, thats really all you need.

As others have stated, ads are how this site stays in business. Watching them is a small price to pay, particularly since there are ways, some simple and some not, to avoid them if you really want to. There are ways to load Flash in Firefox and avoid watching ads, or any other Flash app. No need to keep IE around to do that.

Nothing beats Mozilla Firefox with Flashblock, Adblock and NoScript (java script blocker). Nice clean flashy add free viewing, the ultimate in internet browsing.

Yup, I've got Firefox browser with Adblock. just right click on anything you dont want to see and block it. Most stuff is blocked anyway.
Havent seen an ad for a while.

Non-intrusive advertising is very common on websites, and as many people have suggested, is how TBN is supported. We have always rejected intrusive ads, and will continue to do so, because we don't think it's worth ruining the site over more ad revenue.

Unfortunately, we can't design our site for dial-up access anymore, since the majority of our users are on high-speed connections. Our advertisers take advantage of that with larger file sizes on ads than we saw in the past.

Muhammad has done a superb job in providing a very useful and usable site and interface.

All members are doing a superb job in their discussions and in self monitoring to keep this a family friendly site with very high quality intent and content.

Ads make it possible andkeep it working... I've used them and purchased stuff from the advertisers.

It's good, it isn't broke, let's not fix it... and, I use both a dial up at home and broadband at work.
