This all reminds me of an incident about 40 years ago, when I was still a sergeant. A new clerk/typist was hired for the burglary and theft unit. She was a pretty young lady, known to be very religious, and I believe was married to a preacher. Anyway the captain interviewed her and asked if she was sure she wanted to work in that environment (everyone but the captain and lieutenant in the same big room). He told her there was a lot of traffic, a lot of people under arrest, in and out, and that the language got pretty rough at times. She said she could handle it. But then one day, after a couple of weeks, she was sitting at her desk, crying. The captain called her in his office to ask what the problem was, and she told him she just couldn't stand all the foul language. He said, "Well, I told you that would happen" and she said, "You said the prisoners' language would be bad. I've never heard a prisoner use bad language."
