Default Unacceptable Advertising / Solicitation Thread

I just noticed that a new member "lolorama" has started a thread on Lawn & Garden called "logitech Webcam Download". It is nothing more than an advertisement for pornography. How does somebody let the moderators know about this type if unacceptable thread ?

Mark there is an easy way to notify all the Mods at once. Click on the little triangle icon

Inspector507,
Thank you, I will remember that. I see that the thread in question is gone so I know you guys are on top of things as usual.

I clicked on that thread not long after it was posted. I reported it and it was gone in 5 mins.

Ive asked this before, but were seeing a lot of spam, from sneakers to porn.

I suggested that a persons first post or thread be moderated before going live, but i guess it wouldnt work?

I saw the sneakers too scooby.

The system seems to work pretty good. The "mod squad" keeps 'em at bay.

In fact, this thread has given me an idea for a new Avatar!

There has been a lot of shoes for sale here lately.

Sometimes the 'triangle icon' works... And,.... ~Sometimes it don't.~

The triangle will work eventually. It alerts the mods and then they deal with it. However it will be up until a mod signs in to deal with the issue.

Jimmy: the thread in question was much worse than sneakers.....

Jason, your suggestion about moderating first posts certainly has merit, but of course that would delay legitimate posts until someone reviews them. Bad posts don't last long as it is because, if one of the moderators doesn't see them pretty quickly some other members will report them, for which we are grateful

Now if we could just stop other members from replying to the spam, instead of simply reporting it, it sure would save us a lot of work.

We're constantly trying to eliminate spam. Currently, we have several automated systems in place that:

- Read usernames and e-mail addresses and deny based on likely spam sources

- Require users to answer a question before registering

- Deny registrations that are completed in less than 15 seconds (most spam bots complete the registration form in 1 or 2 seconds).

These methods automatically delete approximately 3,000 spam accounts per month. It seems that about 1% are still getting through.

We will be implementing more anti-spam tools in the future in hopes of eliminating all of it.

Muhammad, how about a craigslist style voting system? ie if enough logged in users vote something as spam then its put in a holding cell till a mod sees it or some such?

Some way of harnessing the group, basically.
