Buying American versus buying Chinese...
I love to go into Harbor Freight. You can stand in the front of the store and look towards the back, and WOW, look at all them tools!
However, I'm like you. My income comes from good old American manufacturing. It's important that we buy American whenever we can. I love Craftsman hand tools as much as the next person. However, I can't justify paying that much more for something if I'm going to use something very occasionally...
It's a constant struggle of what's good for my wallet versus what's good for American manufacturing as a whole.
Another example of the struggles I face in my mind...
The company I work for recently began buying their steel related component items from China. While this decision is not good for the American steel industry, it enabled us to compete with our competitors' products that are 100% Chinese made. It keeps us alive for a few more years. So, while one industry is laying people off, we are adding capacity and additional employees.
Is the TOTAL end result better? I don't think it is, but on my end, things are looking a lot better with my job security. Of course, some day in the future, I could be the one on the outside looking in...
