1987 2120 Only 1 Battery Replacement in 21 years

Amid all the tales of battery problems I just thought I'd post how batteries have held up for me in my 2120. I've had the battery replaced once by the dealer with another oem New Holland battery about 10 years ago. The tractor has been outside it's extire life, never had a block heater, never had a trickle charger and still starts on what seems like the first crank.

My TN75 is still on it's first battery 7 years later. also works fine.

I'm betting you keep the battery tops dry and somewhat clean, and clean the post connections periodically. Maybe you also check the electrolyte level now and again and keep the batteries firmly mounted. And maybe, just maybe the battery gods look favorably upon you! Congratulations, That battery life is certainly above average, especially for this climate.

As an electrical engineer I know that it is above average. Usually I just wash off the battery with a hose now and then and spray with white grease. I attribute it to the fast that in the 2120 and the TN, Ford/New Holland choose to install some honkin big batteries. Much larger than required to start. Also they are good quality batteries. I also make sure that I don't have any of the minor electrical currents draining the batteriies that seem to plague some of our members. Some times these machines aren't started for 3 months during the winter and still start right up. The TN battery does get a workout if all the lights are on. In my cars/trucks I usually average 6 years or so. In my boat 1 -2 years. Cub Cadet 2-3 years. Hitachi Excavator, I don't know but the darn dual batteries look so heavy I don't want to carry them... The only reason I posted this was because I get real curious when I hear about so many people having battery problems. BTW a little WD-40 and a paper towel will do a great job cleaning a battery top.

The last battery in my pickup truck was in the truck for 10 years.
Battery in my tractor is 7 years old and the original. I expect/hope to get a couple more years out of it.
