Default Help! Where to change axle oil on 1710

Okay, I have gone through the manual and my axle is not the same. It says to use 3.3 qts of gear oil in front axle of my 4x4 1710. In the manual, there is a fill plug and dipstick. On mine, nothing. How am I suppose to fill this?

Bob,
I answered to your question in a previous post only without pic, here we go again. #63 is the dipstick and fill cap.

JC,

Yes, I have the same schematic and I see the dipstick; however, I don't have a dipstick as I described in my previous posts. I did figure it out last night though, so now I have a few things to work on. I don't have a dipstick!

The joys of buying a 25 year old tractor. BUnch of very minor details to take care of, but the tractor works great. Should have all seals and fluids changed by next weekend. Until then I am taking it easy with the tractor.

I am going to order a dipstick, but there are two different part numbers for the 1983 model. One part is from 1/1/83 - 8/31/83 and then they changed the dipstick part number for 9/1/83 - on. My serial number is UL02289. I can not find anywhere if that is the early 1983 model or the later 1983 model. Is there another place I can determine this?

Your's is 1983. Dipstick should be part of the fill cap, I'm a bit confused. I trust fill cap was where detailed dwg showed.

No, there was no fill cap. The problem all along was that fill hole was plugged with something (I think a plastic cap which is now in my axle after I pushed on it). So apparently the dipstick/fill cap has been missing for some time.

The parts schematic shows two dipsticks for the 1983 depending on what part of the year the tractor was built.

Just to update those that may be following this. I just came from the dealer. Their parts manual shows the break in the 1983 models 1710s. Mine is in the 1/1/83 - 8/31/83 series. the break was S/N #UL003... I forgot the last three digits.
