Tractor covers available?

Does NH or an aftermarket company make a tractor cover for my TC45A?

Right now I cover it will blankets but they occasionally fall off if the barn doors are open with strong winds.

I would like something form fitting like a car cover but may have to settle with sewing the blankets together.

Am I the only nut who washes and waxes his tractor on a regular basis??

I am not sure if you are the only one who washes and waxes (I never do) but you are not the only nut around here!

I just store mine in cold storage. No cover. I don't want the animals to get comfortable under a cover.

Welcome to TBN and the "Blue" Forum ! IMHO there are a lot of "nuts" members here, but most of us are "nuts" in our own idiosyncratic ways . I leave mine ouside all the time without covers . Someday after enough distasteful whining, grovelling, and kowtowing to SWMBO I will get my tractor and "toys" storage building . Jay

I wonder if a small motorcycle cover wouldn't work slick over the hood and steering console??

You'll probably get lots of opinions on the whole covering thing, but here's mine.

The way I see it, the only typical environmental harm to a tractor is UV radiation. So if the tractor has any kind of roof over its head, I would be reluctant to use any additional form fitting cover. There might be some dust or abrasive in the cover that would cause the scratches you're trying to prevent. And there is also the risk that the cover will trap condensation that will promote rust.


BTW. You're the only nut. The rest of us pride ourselves on making the utmost rational decisions regarding our tractors and implements. Just don't ask my wife.

One reason I want the cover is the horse barn has barn swallows flying in and out as the wife leaves the end and dutch doors open and the birds cr*p all over the tractor. I was concerned the bird cr*p would harm the paint via acididty. Also the barn at this time has a dirt floor and taking the horses in and out the tractor just get coated with dust.

I only really use the tractor for brush hogging 5-6 time sper year so it does not get used much. I've owned thre tractor for 16 months and only have 47 hours on it. 10 or so of those hours was moving dirt with a blade and yard rake.

So far the blanket deal works ok. and I try to make sure the tractor is cleaned off before putting the blankets back on so as not to scratch the paint.

I restore old cars and this mentality of taking pristine care of the tractor rubs off. I took about 250 pics of the tractor when I first got it so when I restore it 40-50 years from now I'll know how to recreate all the paint dab's on the bolts , correct paint finishes etc LOL.

I just bought a gallon of NH blue paint --looking to paint all my implements blue.

So is it safe to say that I am an abhorrent person? I remember an old Dodge pu I had. The Air Force thought it should be blue, but sold it with bad paint. I decided it was road art and continued that philosophy -- blue and bad. I had a rule though, no primer should show and no windows or the one shinny part should be painted (the grill), nor lights not glow. I spent REAL money on that paint, too! No can of spray bomb over a $1. And it had to be blue.

Right fine truck it was too -- rubber mats and all the ex-cess-ories: heater, radio, automagic & power brakes!

PS It never spent a day covered up. Except by snow. Or dark.

This guy has and loves the Barn Swallows that are in the little boat house shown in the picture.
He keps his BX24 in there with them.
Maybe you could give the swallows in your hose barn to him.

I'm not a painter but the last car I had painted after I stripped the paint I used a Dupont Epoxy primer-it was greenish in color. Not sure of the Dupont name. What was nice about this particular primer was it self etches into the metal and gives fantastic protection from corrosion. Later on you can paint over it with any type of paint whether it's acrylic enamel, urethenes, laquers etc. My painter recommends painting over it with Dupont products but he has used other brands of paint such as sikkens, PPG etc over it without any problems. You can also paint over it one month, 1 year or even 3 years later without problems.
Some primer and paints you have to recoat or paint them with 15 minutes of each other and the paint has to be applied within so many hours etc-weird stuff. A friend painted a street rod and it was really stressful for him. You had to paint each paint coat say within 20 minutes of each other and if you waited say one hour the paint would not stick to the prior coat. The "flash" times were super critical.

The dupont primer I used was really forgiving also. Any good automotive paint store can let you know what it is.

BYW: After I stripped the paint I used a good wax/ grease remover (Prep Kleen-it' come sin an aerosol spray can)-really makes a difference in paint adhesion. You won't get those fish eyes etc
