Default HST For Me

After using my TC40DA for snow removal I finally got to have some fun with spring chores. Did some grading, skidding and post hole digging. I was unsure when I purchased the tractor with an HST but after 6 months of use and some road work and log skidding I am very happy with the performance. I just set the RPM at 2100 and pull away at a snails pace. No hesitation and lots of power to the wheels. A great way to go.

My son hooked on to this maple log and moved it up to the road. No problem for the tractor. This log did get hung up on an old stump and the wheels spun briefly in the soft soil until he realized what was going on. Great day in the bush. I am very happy with the control the HST gives you.

I bet that it would have took at least a couple of years to learn if you hadn't got a HST.
BTW, nice looking setup. I don't know how old your son is, but in steal good solid training in him from the start.

Very nice tractor, db2. I'm a little surprised that you have the pin-on bucket. I started with a pin-on, and last year installed the quick-attach plate. Now the loader is just as flexible as my 3PH.

What I've found with HST is that you can stall the transmission, even in low-turtle in the right situation. However, if you had a gear tractor, in the same situation, you'd be spinning the wheels. Same result. I also love my HST.

Nice looking cabbed 40DA.

Don't know how much you use the hydraulic post hole digger but if it's a lot you may want to see just how hard it would be to mount the power head on your FEL. I'm thinking that being able to use it while looking straight ahead might be a real advantage to you....

Enjoy that hydro, I know we do.

Jim: A quick attach is something I'd like but presently I don't have any other "tools" for the front end.

Mike: Don't do too much post hole digging but yes everything is easier to use when it's out front.

I am pleasantly surprised with the power and ease of use of the HST. I would recommend it to anyone using a tractor for the same purposes I do.
