TC34DA Seat Safety Switch...?

I think I'd put an ohm meter to the switch terminals and see which pairs were suposed to be shorted.. Actually... with a tractor that new.. i wouldn't be doing anything but calling my dealer.. No way I'm turning a wrench on a 2 week old tractor that has warranty... especially not on a safety item..

Max, My switch is only a 2 terminal switch! Does yours have wires hooked up to all 4 terminals or just 2 out of the 4? I hope it ends up being something as simple as the switch. Yes, let me know what you find. I am curious too.

Soundguy,

Totally agree with ya! :D I called my dealer today and they told me that it wouldn't be a problem to order a switch and have it installed, under warranty of course... They did tell me that my TC34DA had the same sort of switch that the bob cats have, 4 pin and it has to be depressed in a way where it hits two points on the switch that make contact. They told me to jump 1-3 and 2-4. Coincidently I would check for continuity when the switch is pushed down, if there is none then the switch is bad. Either way, I still think it’s acting sort of flakey…

Having said all that… This morning I had to move some snow and the alarm went off, so I would jump up and down a little bit and it then seemed to go away… So, at least I was able to get my work done this morning… Needless to say, a new switch is on order and they are going to call me when it’s time to swing by and install it. I’ll still keep everyone informed as to what happens… this might help some others out there with this sort of 4 pin safety switch. :)

HA! I wish mine was as simple as that one... Turns out you do have to jumper 1-3 and 2-4 started right up, no problem at all. I found some ole 12-2NB wire laying around and cut one black piece and one white, pounded them on the ground to make the ends nice and flat... shoved them in the plug (see pic) and she fired right up with no brake. I'm still letting her warm up, so I'll see if anything else weird happens... My dealer said that they think the switch is faulty... so at least I'll get a new one installed under warranty...

(shot of where she sleeps, in ole scary barn with 1971 Maverick and junk Honda Civic) :D

I drove it around and everything seems normal... I DON'T RECCOMEND doing this long term, since it's not a good idea to "bypass" a safety device... So, as soon as the new switch comes in, on it goes! Although, I do like michigander's idea ;) ;) ...might have to do that one... shhhh, don't say anything... haha... :)

Thanks again for everything guys!

Has anybody else noticed the green between 3 and 4 on the switch and connector?

I took delivery of my TC34 this spring. A couple of months later, I was informed that there was a recall campaign for the operator presence (seat safety) switch. I believe that it related more to the issue of not killing the tractor when it should than to the issue of keeping the tractor running. The dealer came out and "fixed" it - installed a spacer and adjusted, I believe. Prior to the fix, I experienced the same issue as you - an overly sensitive seat safety switch (it would beep when I turned around to fiddle with something). I have only ran my tractor a few times since they fixed the switch, but I haven't had it beep at me since. Probably should discuss the issue with your dealer, make sure the recall issue is addressed, and see it they can adjust it to suit you.

TC33DRon, Yes, now that you say it. Looks a lot like corrosion and could be the whole problem.

Max, You look like you have a nice home for that tractor of yours!:)
