IH Hytran in other equipment?

I have various tractors, IH, New Holland, Mahindra...can I run IH Hytran in all of them? Some have seperate fill for trans and Hydraulics, will that matter? I called a Mahindra dealer and he said Hytran would be good choice for it. What are others using?

You can run Hy-Tran but if your hyd res/sump and your trans are separate (ie. Mahindra 6000), why not use what's called for...ie 80-90 gear oil in the trans and hyd fluid in the hyd res. "Real" IH Hy-Tran is expensive stuff.....You can use the hy-tran in the hyd sump though, its good stuff. Another thing about HY-Tran, is that its somewhat "thinner" than 80-90 gear oil....at least to me it is anyway...BobG in VA

Hytran is one of the best hydraulic fluids made. It is great in cold weather and moisture.

I looked at the manual and did not see any reference to the plug on the trans. I actually called a local dealer and he did not know about it either. BobG, where in your manual does it reference the lower trans oil specs etc.?

I'd take that statement with a grain of salt. Depending on the version, Hy-Tran scores low on the FZG (ASTM D5182) test, which is critical for piston products. Universal and super universal tractor fluids have different goals as a fluid vs. a true anti-wear hydraulic fluid.

HyTran is designed to provide lubrication for transmission gears, spiral bevel final drives, etc....If you have a tractor with common reservoir, you are in the market for a UTF. If you have a backhoe loader (for instance), you will want a dedicated hydraulic fluid.

Hmm, if they are under warranty, call the manufacturer. If they are not under warranty, call the manufacturer.

Slippy, I've got the Service Manual and the Parts Manual for the 6000. I just saw your question....I'll pull it up today and get back to you. BobG in VA

The company only markets one at a time, the newest Hytran Plus is far from the original Hytran of the 70's.

Slippy, I finally pulled out the Service Manual...on Page 357, Mahindra specs sae 80W-90 API GL4-GL5 for the trans/diff (combined/same fill and drain points). They have a note that states: " Do not use synthetic oil without consent of the manufacturer". Oil should meet MIL-L-2105 and MIL-L-2105D

On page 360 they identify the drain plug with is just forward of the point where the axles branch out and centered on the bottom on the differential. As you know the oil level check is located to the right and above the PTO spline. As I remember it took about 6 gallons or so to refill....good luck. BobG in VA

BobG: Does that mean I use the same oil for both fill holes on the 6000? There are two check/fill holes, on just to the right of the pto and the other one above just to the right of the seat.
