Castrol Edge VS Mobil 1

This think with your dipstick ad is driving me nuts, along with the fact that they say they have 8x better wear protection than Mobil 1. I went through thier web site and they list the test and try to prove it. Not knowing a ton about oils, but understanding lab testing, I have to believe that they can scew the results in thier favor.

Anyone have any opinions on this. I have to believe that these two oils are about the same when used in vehicles?

I run mobil 1 in the wifes Denanli 6.2L and the motor seems to like it alot. I never have used Castrol.

Don't know about Edge but I've read where Mobil 1 has been "cheapened" and isn't as good as it once was.

How good do you need it? With many cars (well maintained) on dino going well over 200K miles, I would think the rest of the car will fall apart before you have a failure due to either oil.

I guy who used to work for me at Exxon Research & Engineering Co. in lube process area quit and went to work for Sun Oil for a while. He's back with Exxon-Mobil now. He said while at Sun, they did some research on dino vs. Mobil 1 in taxicab fleets. He said the cab engines with Mobil 1 had NO valve train wear at all. This explains how Mobil 1 gives both a fuel economy and hp boost: no grinding away of valve train stuff.

I just switched my 2005 Tacoma to Mobil 1. Fuel mileage went from 27ish to 28ish. Got almost 29 on a recent trip from Charlottesville to Blacksburg.

Now have all 3 vehicles, tractor, 1 4 cycle lawn mower and generator on Mobil 1. Two are diesel. Am using 0w30.

I have noticed in the latest Amsoil propaganda (err i mean literature) that the Mobil 1 stuff seems to have slipped from being #2/#3 on down the list some.. I didnt know whether that meant some other companies were getting better or M1 was getting less better..

I have had a very difficult time finding the Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

my little mobil 1 experiment:
I had a 1999 gmc 3/4 ton 4x4 extended cab with the 6.0 engine. I was a mechanic at a gm dealership when I purchased the truck, not 10k miles into owning the thing I was able to "get" a new 6.0 engine with 3k miles on it with a minor problem with a valve. Due to the deal at the time I was able to keep the engine, I fixed it and had it sitting sealed up ready to go in my truck at any time. So I drove the heck out of my 99, changed the oil sometime with in a month or so of the the "change oil" light coming on, thats 6-8k miles on each oil change. The truck lived its life pulling a 8k load almost every weekend during the summer to the lake and the the cooler times of the year I had a car hauler style trailer pulling cars, tractors, and plants all over the area. The truck pulled enough weight i actully broke 3 flexplates in the 140k miles i put on the truck before i sold it. The truck always got mobil 1 and lived a rough life, but i ended up giving the motor to my neighbor for his street rod since mine never failed.
All my gas engine stuff gets mobil 1, rotella for diesel, but thats another story. As a mechanic I did see the difference inside an engine that ran sysnthetic vs the ones who did not.
To me valvoline and penzoil are good for pooring down the fence line to kill the poison ivy, cause they would never go in anything i drive

The advertising these days is so out of whack that you don't know who you can trust. when they advertise 8x better wear, I kind of laughed..... Does anyone have any oil analysis results or anything we can compare "facts" of these oils?
