Default 1000 hrs switch to syn?

My JD 4300 has 1000 hrs on it, is this too many hrs to switch over to synthetic?

Never to late to switch to synthetics oil, but have to ask, why now? One reason I would switch would be cold weather= easier starts and less wear in colder weather.

1000 hours isn't that much on a good running diesel engine. If it was up over maybe 8000 hours I would keep on with whatever oil got it that far but I wouldn't see any problem with switching at 1000 hours.
My B3030 is 2 hours away from its next change which will be to a full synthetic. Lots of discussion about how early is okay to switch to synthetics too. I like to run things long enough on what the manufacturer put in it to make sure there are no unusual problems, for me that is the 100 hour change.

The reason to switch now is because I just got it. I pretty much have all my other rigs switched to syn. Most were bought new and switched after dino breakin.

This is an answer that I received after contacting Amsoil Synthetic Technician with a question on when and at what hours can I switch for dino oil to Amsoil heavy duty diesel oil in my new tractor. Hope this helps answer any questions about a long break-in period befor switching to a synthetic based oil.
DevilDog
Rick;

The AMSOIL 0W30 oil is a gasoline engine oil, therefore is not as good a choice for use in diesel engines. It is recommended for use in almost all gasoline engines, however. My suggestion is AMSOIL 5W3.0 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil (HDD) in your climate. It can be used after accumulating only 6 hours on the engine.

Thank you for this opportunity to respond to your question(s). As always, please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Byron Selbrede

Our J-D 310D backhoe had 9,800 hours on when we got it (still in great shape, tho..); the original owner had always used J-D 15-40 dino. We switched to RTS 5-40 syn at the first change, and have been using it ever since with no issues.

Yes, because we all know that Nascar teams win because of the oil they use or the candy bars they eat or the soda they drink, because that's what they say they owe their victory to. Not because of a good engine builder or lucky pit timing or good driving.
