I have never heard of type N motor oil and I can not google up any hits for it. What are you calling type N oil?

By "n" do you mean API SN classification? Some tractors, such as Kubota's until around 2011 or so, only require the older API CF classification. Many newer brands/weights of passenger car motor oils(PCMO) marked API Sx(x=L,M or N) will qualify for the older diesel classification CF. Even though the PCMO qualify they are not usually marked with the older CF designation. So technically you could use them in place of a CF oil. I would not use a API SN oil in place of the CF qualified HDEO though, unless it was just for topping off or an emergency. Too many good HDEO are available at reasonable prices and available pretty much everywhere. So if I understood your question correctly: You can but it would not be ideal. I would shorten the oil change interval if doing so.
