When I made my hydraulic thumb, I used 11 of these flat face grease fittings on the mechanism. They don't stick out and can't be broken off. But I have had a miserable time getting grease into them, trying several different adapters. I finally found this needle adapter from Lincoln, which comes with a hose that screws into their air grease gun. It works perfectly, what a difference. And much easier than the usual zerk, no struggling with a fit that is either too tight or too loose.

On a related topic, there have been some discussions on how to store grease guns and tubes, or keep them from leaking. I just put everything in a plastic tub. It is still a mess, but at least all in one place.

Does dirt pack into those fittings?

Doesn't seem to. I use them on a lot of stuff. I especially like them in greasable U-joints. Don't hafta worry so much about getting the U-joint flexed just right so the normally bulky connector can get in there.

Pat, that's the same tool I use. I got mine at O'Reilly's Auto Parts store.

I wipe them off like a standard fitting haven't noticed a problem so far. Shoulda checked OReilly's bought 2 other kinds of needle adapter before finding this one.
