Depending where you live, some garages use this used oil for heat, and its EPA approved for disposal. Yes I had family that dumped it along the fence, that has not happened in about 20 years and the signs are still there from it.

When we first moved to AK, the used oils were mixed with something else and sprayed on the dirt roads around Anchorage. In those days dust was a REAL problem - having a dirt road past your house was a real luxury, having a paved road meant you lived downtown.

This was all well and good until one day the mayors young son came home with his clothing soaked in oil. He had been playing in Chester Cr - a local stream. That particular practice was terminated immediately and never happen again.

The uses of used oil is very much a political situation - it all depends upon whose ox is being gored.
