Some of you might have read the thread I posted on the valve train noise in my Impala's 3.4 l engine. After using some motor flush and doing some reading, it appears that it might in fact be piston slap (i.e. bore too large and piston too small). Anyway, the car calls for 5w30 or 10w30. It seems to me that a heavier oil might quiet the piston slap, which is only a problem for 5 minutes or so at cold startup in temps of 40 degrees or less. It's not really that big of a deal to me, but if I can reduce the problem, that would be great.
