Pretty neat info I must say. What kind of oil do you use in your tractor and car? Dino or fake Just curious

Re: 50 hr Engine Oil Analysis by Darr

craig,

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe some one else has done this on a Kubota and will have better numbers to compare with. I only have the one data point. I was a little concerned about the amount of silicon (dirt) in both the engine oil and hydraulic fluid. Wish I had something to compare that to. I checked the double filters and they looked fine. I could blow quite a bit of dirt off the outer filter, but that is always the case.

Re: 50 hr Engine Oil Analysis by Darr

From what I've found, here are the real #'s for viscosity limits. SAE has a specification for crankcase oils and a specification for gear oils. For Crankcase oils, the viscosity limits for 5W, 10W, and 20W are at 0F. For 20, 30, 40, and 50, the limits are at 210F. The following are in centistokes:

SAE min max
5W n/a <1300
10W 1300 2600
20W 2600 10,500
20 5.7 9.6
30 9.6 12.9
40 12.9 16.8
50 16.8 22.7

Multigrade oils have viscosity-temperature curves which are flat enough to lie within two SAE grades. An oil with a viscosity of 15 cS at 210F and 1500 cS at 0F would be 10W40.

(If anybody knows how to display tabular info. more nicely, feel free to drop me a hint!)
