What is the best grease for my new kubota, bush hog, etc. Lithium, moly, ......I was told make sure it is labeled "high pressure". The grease I see on the kubota is a clear tan, but most of the grease I see at the store is a nasty black color.

Thanks

I have used a couple dozen brands and types of grease over the years. I personally like Mobil One synthetic grease the best for my tractors, loaders and backhoes. It seems to stay put and keeps a film on pins longer than anything else that I have used.

Two of the best high preasure greases around are TRC's 880 Crown & Chassis Grease or Paragon 3000. Both have a Timken OK Load rating of 100 lbs while most other greases on the market have a rating of somewhere between 50-70 lbs.

Thanks for the posts. I am supprised that there are not questions about difference types of grease

As far as grease types go I personally like either Calcium 12-Hydroxysterate or Calcium/Lithium complex greases. Straight Lithium or Calcium are also good. The Calcium 12-Hydroxysterate base greases are nice because they are highly compatible (in fact the most compatible) with other grease types. I avoid straight Polyurea base greases as they are very uncompatible with other grease types.

I like Moly grease.
Yes, it's gross and sticks to everything, but that's the idea.
Plus, the moly gets into the steel itself and makes it slippery.
Even if you screw up and forget for a long time, it's still there keeping it from being steel on steel.

Moly fortified grease is especially good for use on FEL's and backhoe's. Most Caterpillar excevation equipment spec's a 3% Moly grease.

Hi Hugh, Diesel and the gang,

I keep a copy of this little chart in my workshop and refer to it when messing with the different types of greases. It is a grease compatibility chart. As Diesel pointed out...grease is not just grease! Greases are formulated for specialized uses and some are better than others. Just pumping any old grease that you have on hand into a zerk and mixing old types with new may not be very good in the long run.

I use the lithium Moly grease from TSC. Seems to do a great job...but MAN is it messy!!!

In the grease world, the messier the better. The better adhesive and cohesive properties it has the more likely it is to stay put in the lubricated part and resist being forced out. A good grease should be impossible to wipe off of your fingers leaving a film no matter how much you try to wipe it off and should only come off with soap and water.
