    Default Re: Chains or Straps??

There's lots of different chains. The proof coil stuff stocked in hardware stores is on the low end strengthwise. Transport chain like the stuff used to bind loads on trucks is stronger. Beyond that there's several stronger grades.

AW Direct is an outfit that sells to tow companies. Their catalog describes the various grades of chain. Most chain comes with a warning that it's not qualified for overhead lifting. The strongest grades can be used for that purpose. You won't find that chain at retail outlets.

As far as line whip, that's a big problem with wire rope not chain.
