Thanks for all the quick replies. First I realize the 24 hrs. is not since new. The dealer got it directly from VietNam. It had been reconditioned and completely repainted. Looked like brand new. I know they are used. My research found that it has a 17 hp engine. The dealer went out of business and cannot be found. After many tries there is NO air left at the injectors. The glow plugs have been reconditioned (in an acid bath). Several people have, after listening to the start attempts, said that the engine fires only on one cylinder. The other two are out of time. Not enough to run. The exhaust smokes black indicating plenty of fuel on top. My latest mechanic claims 45 yrs. experience on these type tractors and just rebuilt a JD with the same ailments. The ones of you who read my earlier posts can understand how frustrated I am with this thing. Unfortunately I live in a state (Arizona) where most people have never even seen a tractor let alone worked on one. Luckily my previous "mechanics" have not charged me much for their trials. For several weeks I had an offer on the Internet offering anyone who can give me workable advise a hundred dollar bill. We have done EVERYTHING that was hinted on this forum and still NO GO. Will keep you posted and thanks again.

What is the compression in each cylinder?

I have a 2 cylinder that I ran out of fuel. Almost gave up on it and then removed the lines from the the injectors and used a small funnel to fill them with diesel. then re-attached to the injector. I tried to start with thes e connections loose until I saw splashes .Tightened then it started. I had already done all of the above mentioned cures even pressurizing the tank and dragging the tractor. Nothing had worked to that point. Iseem to recall that the pump has to be primed by filling the actual pump thru a plug on top in order to pressure up.
might try?

Hans- I feel your pain. I,m having kind of the same problem as you, only with a 3 cyl Kubota. Mine cranks good and I have bled the fuel lines to where it is coming out at the top of the injector when you loosen it up a bit. My concern is that there is not much pressure there. Leading me to think that I might have a bad injection pump. I have checked the glow plugs. I have even tried spraying starting fluid (I know its a no no) into the air cleaner with no attemp to fire. It's possible I have low compression also. I;m going to get a compression tester and check that, but I don't know how to check the injection pump. You would think that low pressure would equal a bad pump. It's really hard to find much information on small diesel engines.

Engine Starts Hard or Won't Start
1.Air leak on the suction side of the system
2.Fuel too heavy at low temperature
3.Diesel injection nozzles faulty or sticking
4.Incorrect timing
5.Diesel automatic advance is faulty or not operating
6.Water in fuel
7.Filter clogged
8.Injection pump return fuel line or fittings restricted
9.Low cetane fuel
10.Injection pump 180 degrees out of time

Like so many before, put a tow rope on it, drag it down the road in gear behind a truck to get some real rpm into it, and she will fire up. Could take a few hundred yards, but if it could start, it will.
