David....Some fellas just drill a hole with their PHD and leave it in the hole...just disconnect it and go on...If you don't want to do that permanently...at least that is a way to store it for easy hook up when you get your stand ready at your convenience.

I am aware of that method, and I am considering it for the short term. My soil is very moist, rust would be a big problem...

if you want to hang your digger up.you can do 1 or 2 things,find a low hanging big tree branch an hang the digger up with a chain.2 you can build an A frame to hang it on.

This past Sunday I finally got a little seat time.

I muddied the PHD prepping a hole for a couple canna lillys my wife wanted. It was a spot where I'd ground out a pawlonia stump and the PHD popped loos some of the roots that have been suckering and making mowing a challenge.

After planting the cannas (I used traditional hand PHD and my tamper/digging rod to clean up the holes) I tried todrop the PHD onto my PHD stand and it was going to fall over so it needs work now and I cannot unhook the PHD... :thumbdown: :irked:

Now I'm kinda stuck until I can find a way to stabilize (or find a level spot) for my PHD stand (or build a different one).

I need to bush-hog, so I'm going to be forced to work on this this weekend I suspect.

David I might not understand the problem, but I was just thinking for now why don't you just dig a hole about 2 foot deep with the PHD in some out of the way spot and leave the auger and all in the hole temporarily and unhook it? It will still be there upright to hook back up when you get your stand remodeled or rebuilt. That way you can get to work with the cutter, and work on the PHD stand whenever.?

Finished my woods road culvert today. I set the culvert and bedded it in 3/4" Sta-mat which is similar to Crusher Run. Then I covered it and the rest of the swampy area with 3 1/2" stone road base. I couldn't get my truck down there so I had to move the material one bucket at a time a little over 100 yards. I used the bucket to scoop material right out of the truck bed. When I couldn't reach anymore I closed the tailgate and raised the dump body to move more material to the back. The last bucket full I had to shovel into the bucket because it would just slide to easy.

I would have needed an excavator to remove all the muck and sod like you would want to do for a road or driveway so someday I will probably have to come back and add more stove. I am hoping it will last a while with just my tractor going over it once in a while.

I used 2.5 ton of sta-mat which cost $19. ( I put some of it on the road above the culvert to make a smoother trip down ) and 3 ton of road base which cost $24. Plus a little fuel. The culvert was free.

Can you give me some details how you did it? Did you mostly use your FEL? Brush hog? Thanks!!

Toothbar on the bucket and lots of slow steady digging and pushing. For the stuff that is/was to big I rented a bigger machine for a few days. Helped save a few bucks and my machine.

Yesterday I FINALLY got some quality seat time!

The PHD stand only needed to be leveled, works great now. I had made very minor mods to make it taller prior to this also. I dropped the PHD and grabbed the cutter and I was off bush hogging! I have not cut some of this since July 3rd! I cut the tall stuff in what will be the North pasture when I finish the next fence line, and I cut most of the South pasture area. Looks so good when I cut it, but it is so bumpy! I then took the tractor inside the temp pasture area and hit all the baby trees and 2nd growth off of stumps. Good grief those horse have devoured any and all grass in the new expanded areas.

I managed to get 2 hours or so of good seat time! :thumbsup:

Gordon, nice work, really like that grapple.
Moss, I used my phd this week for the first time in a couple of years. The drive shaft got stuck on the pto (stupid me, bang it on equals can't get it off). Had to remove the universal joint and I'm going to try to use a gear puller to remove it. It's really stuck.
Took the box blade to the woods road to knock down all the grown up brush, now just need some rock.
