TODAYS SEAT TIME

Gordon,
I copied your pic in a post I have about land plane's. I'd love to build one someday and keep that thread handy for 'notes'. I'd love to know more about your land plane, such as steel thickness, weight, size or anything you feel like sharing. I've always admired how well that came out. Yours and Jenkins are two that I want to copy when I build one. Well, if you don't mind anyways.

Actually I have a hard time believing how good they work. Here are some notes I had on it. Hope it helps. Steve's units are excellant you are smart to look at them too.

---------------------------------------------
Grader 4'-6" long, 5' wide ( inside) 575 lbs

Notes
------
Lift Arm Braces 28" center to center
Upper Cross Braces 2' apart
Blade Mounts 2' apart, first blade mounted 10" back, front of Blade Mounts are 3/4" below runners
3" X 3" triangles cut from bottom corners of sides for runner angles
1/2" Grade 8 bolts and extra long nuts for tail gate stop pins
swinging tailgate up and forward to hang insde against stops is like box blade ( sort of )
swinging tailgate up and back to hang behind stops allows use like push blade in reverse

Steel
-----
Standard lengths - Bought and picked up at steel supply house, They make one cut at no charge

3/8" X 12" steel plate 20' (2/10') $210
2 sides, 6pcs 6" X 3" for hitch clevises, tail gate

3/8" X 2" steel bar 10' $25
2 runners

2 1/2" X 1/4" Square tube 24' (2/12') $115
2 upper cross members, top link verticle and angle braces, 2 lift arm braces

4" X 4" X 3/8" angle 10' $69
2 cutting blade mounts

1 1/2" schedule 80 blk iron pipe 10' $46
hinge pin for tail gate ( used 3 short pieces of 2" sched 40 I had for hinges )

Total Steel $465

Figure on another $250 or so for a pair of heavy duty cutting edges.

Well, I suppose I could load one up and drive over. Then drive back and get the 2nd one. 8mph and 1,000 miles or so. No sweat! Thanks for the offer!

Actually this was yesterday, but the fel blew a hose, the one attached to the cylinder. After several attempts to remove it, (it was really stuck) I just took the whole cylinder off and took it down to the jd dealer and they fixed it right up. Put the cylinder back on, reatttached the hose and now the old girl is back online.

De-sodded an area roughly 30' x 70' for some covered space to store tractor, attachments, and trailers under.

Now I am thinking I should (or could) strip off the top soil and set it aside for use elsewhere.

Then after the shed is up lay some non-weaved geotextile down and cover with some 3/4" crushed stone.

True "seat" time today. Never started the tractor at all. But I spent about 2 1/2 hours stretching and gluing the side of my seat cover back down to the metal pan. I was able to stretch it far enough to wrap it around the metal. I used 3 vice grips to hold sections in place while the glue set. Then I glued the edge material all along the seat vinyl. Thanks to Roy Jackson for suggesting Gorilla Glue brand super glue. Hopefully it holds a good long while.

Yesterday I managed to get a short bit of seat time in. I ground 6 stumps in the next pasture area, then I drove the tractor down to the hay barn where I parked it inside (the grapple is out the door a bit so mostly inside) next to the hay. It is gonna rain the next couple days. This is only the 2nd time I've parked it inside in over a year.

Be well,
David
