Decided to get rid of a sliver of pine tree stump that was left from the tree I accidently knocked down with my LS a couple of weeks ago. I first tried to pull it up with the RTV 900 but it wouldnt come out so I got the B26 TLB and dug it out. Hit some rocks so decided to dig them out also. I dug all afternoon on this one rock that seemed to be a small one but it kept growing and growing as I dug. I got a big pile of small basketball sized ones and a pretty large hole (hope to take some photos of it tomorrow) before I dedided that it was not going to be possible to dig this one out much less raise it if I could ever find the end of it. Found another small one protruding a few dozen feet away and got it dug up but it was too large to lift with the backhoe. I ended up rolling it around and backfilling around it till I got it to the top of the hole so I could roll it out with the FEL. Photos maybe tomorrow of the smaller one also. It appears that this back ridge might be mostly rocks from the digging I did today.
At least I now know why the big pine tree had very little root system and no tap root. It was setting directly on top of this huge slab of rock. I uncovered about 6-8 feet of it but still havent reached the end or the bottom of it and the hole is at least 4 feet deep by 10 feet long x 6 wide.

Might be a Chinese rock, (the other end is a flagstone in Tiananmen square)

We have uncovered some large ones but never this large. Lots of mountains with solid rockaround here and this might just be the top of one since it is on a hill. It has lots of small rocks surrounding it, usually these all break up into small to medium sized rocks even it they were at one time a solid piece. I did break off a few slabs but the remaining piece seems to be solid limestone.

I took a few photos of the Chinese rock. I just had to pick up the big one with the LS that I dug out with the B26. Not much of a task for the LS but too much for the little Kubota. I ended up backfilling the whole thing with some import dirt. I use the stuff I dug out which was about 75% rocks to build up my creek road crossing a bit more.

Hey Gary, Nice rock

Haven't ran my saw or tractor for two weeks. It's been deer season and I came up empty. I can't remember such a long string of quiet sunny days during deer season before. Very nice weather except for hunting. The only buck I saw was a foolish little spike. He was eating grass out back at noon.
I usually quit in the softwood and start cutting firewood right after hunting season. This year is no different. Feels good to be back at it.

Yesterday I went up the hill to clear some fallen trees off the trails, using (AMH MightyMax 42") pallet forks in front and a (Wallenstein FX65) skidding winch in back. Here is one photo of 3 large stems hauled back to the barn to be cut up for firewood:

This thread is 4 1/2 years old. But it hasn't been updated in almost a month and I refuse to let it die that easily. So, to bump the thread, I'll announce that I got to clear 6 inches of snow earlier this week. Only have my FEL to do the work, but seat time counts regardless.

On the way to my inlaws, stopped and checked on my beast. She was right where i left her. Didn't have time to do anything with it other than give it reassurance that spring will be here in just a few months. I don't know who was more heart broke about leaving, me or my Mahindra!

A good day for me and my seat. Snow plowing at dawn, just four inches but you have to cover the same ground for three inches or two feet. Then dropped the back blade and went to the back lot and cut up some blown down spruce into two foot sugar wood. Only brought one bucket full down to the sugar house but have two or three cut and waiting for tomorrow. Might fill the bucket and hitch on to a good sized log to make the half mile trip more productive.
