Oh BTW, my 3525 also has the plunger pump on the filters

I thought that one of the selling points of skydrol was that if it was sprayed out in a mist (like a high pressure hydraulic leak), it wouldn't or couldn't be ignited, unless the fluid was REALLY hot, like 800-900 degrees or something crazy hot like that? And they had a film of it burning? Was it on a hotplate or something?

Also, can the operator arbitrarily change what type of fluid they use in the hyd systems? I thought a change like that would have to be approved by the airframe manufacturer. (maybe it was...?)

Also, Could you imagine the news headlines if a skydrol-filled seatback actuator leaked and a pax got it all overthemselves, like it dripped onto their shoes and then burned their feet up??? WOW...

My instructor told me the tests Monsanto did for the airlines and FAA to get it approved were done at !,000 psi. Because Monsanto found out 3,000 psi shot into a flame caused it to ignite like a flame thrower.
I think it would be cost prohibitive to change fluid's in mid stream on an airliner. Too many things would have to be changed and the paperwork and testing alone would be a fortune.

That would make sense... 3000 psi likely made much smaller droplets... easier for the flame to "preheat", then ignite.

I would think so too... that would be a pretty major thing to change from 5606 to skydrol.

Getting air out of fuel system on Yanmar powered JDs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.Loosen Bleed screws on filter
2.Turn key to first position
3.Tighten screws when fuel flows free of bubbles
4.Loosen Bleed screw on injection pump
5.Tighten screw when fuel flows free of bubbles
Start Engine...
If no start..., then repeat Steps 1-5 and then
6.Loosen all injector nuts...(drop 17mm wrench in dirt... )
7.Use starter to turn engine over
8.When fuel appears at injectors, tighten injector nuts (using 17mm wrench which must be retrieved from ground... )
9.Start Engine...
If no start... , then repeat Steps 1-9 and practice special language skills...

If you repeat steps 1-9 enough...get out battery charger and watch rest of NASCAR Race...
