Detent valve use

I bought a 3pt post driver to use on my M9450. I have two sets of remotes. The top set detents in the forward position and is spring return to the rear. The bottom set of remotes detents both ways. I was told to hook up the supply line to a remote that detents and this would give me a hydraulic source to the post driver. The problem is that as soon as I operate any lever on the post driver the remote jumps out of detent. My nieghbor who has many Fords says that they use a bungee cord to hold them in detent. that dosen't sound very wise to me. Any help would be appreciated.

You may have an auto return valve there. This is the kind you see on
hyd log splitters where the lever goes into detent until the cyl connected
to the work ports reaches the end of its travel and hyd pressure causes
the lever to spring back to neutral.

I have not seen that kind of valve used as a rear AUX valve on a tractor,
but it sure is possible. Can you try the other valve?

The valve that you have described is what came with the factory remotes on my Mahindra 7520. When I bought the 3rd remote and added it on, it also was a 4 position valve, all positions have detents.

Does the log splitter have an OC valve set with proper return?

I am fairly new to hydralics but are any remotes considered continuous flow, meaning the lever stay in place until it is physcially moved back into the detent or "rest" position. I have never used my rear remotes but mine detents both ways and I assumed they were continuous flow. Would the PHD need continuous flow to work properly.

By detents, I mean that the valve when moved from the neutral (middle)
position, will stay in that position if moved a bit further. Most FEL
valves detent in the forward (boom down) position, but no other positions.
Otherwise, they just spring back to neutral if you let go of the handle.

My own rear AUX valve will detent in either of the two (non-neutral)
positions, and that is how I connect my backhoe. As for a hyd PHD, I
use those with a non-detented valve because I want quick control and
it only operates briefly before I need to re-position. Also, I do not HAVE
to use the detent on a DA valve if I do not need it.
