My fairly new JD 3320 started belching smoke out of the exhaust and stumbling whenever I try running it above 2000 RPM!
I've never had any problems with it previously. My first thought is to check the air filter(s) to make sure they are not clogged by critters or dust. I didn't check last night since the skeeters were so bad I couldn't stand them. I'll check tomorrow midday. Any other ideas of what could cause the stumbling and smoke?

Only two things cause BLACK smoke in a diesel: Too much fuel and/or not enough air.
Not only check the air filter, but you may want to remove any duct/hose to & from the filter to the engine & give it a look also. If all checks out well, it may be time for a rebuild of the injectors (depending on what type of fuel delivery system is used).

Well, I put in a new air filter, checked all the air passages (clean), and put on a new fuel filter. It still sputters with lots of smoke.
John Deere dealer is picking it up on Wednesday. Sigh!
