That Durafix stuff looks tempting and I may give it a try. But the crack along the upper edge is really not a structural so I may just go the bondo route. We'll see.

I haven't shown the boat to my Dad yet. It is actually his boat. Fortunately it was one of those real beaters so it has never been pretty and has had numerous other patches and repairs, so he won't be mad.

The thing I've learned is that either my reflexes, my mental quickness or my grasp of reality or all three are not what they used to be and that from now on I'm going to have to be a lot more like Double Orange's wife.

The other thought that occurred to me is that even though I may be blaming my old age (45), an observer would have thought I was acting more like a teenager! You know, that 'who me, worry' attitude or the 'nothing can go wrong' mentality. I'm glad my 18 year old son did not witness the incident because he knows I would have busted his chops for doing the same thing! I can hear it now:

Me: Why on earth did you run over that boat rope? Are you really that lazy?

Him: Dad, I did not see the rope in the deep grass, gimme a break.

Me: Didn't see it? The boat was right there. Where in the heck did you think the rope would be?

Him: I don't know. (Rolls eyes).

Me: Then why didn't you stop the PTO when you saw the boat jerk?

Him: I don't know. It happened real fast. I thought it would just cut the rope or something.

Me: Oh my gosh, you have got to be kidding. I thought I brought you up smarter than that. Boy, your granddad is going to be mad!

I have operated a ditch witch and I can see that fence getting "eaten" SOOOO clearly. Glad that I'm not the only one that flubs up once in a while, and glad that no one got hurt with their mishaps. My memorable one was operating a Gravely with the 30" brush mower and hooked into anout 50 feet of 3/16" dia. steel wire cable buried in the deep weeds of a customer's field I was cutting. I thought I was fast in shutting it down, but seems I wrapped about 49 feet of it around the blade spindle. Took quite a while to clear that mess out, and I was VERY greatful that I didn't get a foot caught in a loop of the cable as it wound up under the mower.

Post a pic if you can, George.

I have worked on metal boats. If the hull is torn, etc. ...I have taken aluminum sheet, (street sign material is excellent), cut it to size with a sawzall, filed all edges smooth, beveled the sides, and with the right bends....then pop riveted the material to the boat. When pop riveting, place a bead of 3M 5200 Marine Caulk between metals. The 3M can be bought in a small tube, from Walmart.

i've lived at our current house for 10 years...

just about every week, i cut the front yard which is near the road........invariably there is a mcd's bag or something.......for some reason, i've never learned my lesson as to "ah, it'll just chew it up real fine and leave it lay right in the same spot." nope, it shreds it and slings it all over the yard.....then i think to myself, "i was too lazy to shut the mower off and pick it up, now i have to take MORE time to clean it up..."

I agree, this should remain a little flexable. BIL tried to fix his jon boat with bondo, then fiberglass. The small boats flex to much and it won't stick. For little holes I use silicone sealer.
