Any tips on how to remove exhaust soot from painted/plastic surfaces?

Purple Power cleaner/degreaser does a very good job removing soot from painted surfaces. I've not used it on plastic but it takes soot off of my loader arms from the exhaust stack.

Purple Power.

But when you use it don't let it dry.

I use Simple Green. I use it to wash the soot off my loader and snowblower, where the exhaust blows on them.

FWIW, I've had Purple Power dull paint on me..... but YMMV.

That's the reason i said to not let it dry.

I'm still shopping for my first tractor but in my marine experience I always kept a coat of wax (applied without rubbing/buffing off) around areas prone to exhaust soot...the soot usually washes off with a hose until the wax is all gone...

I have also use this technique on passenger vehicles before traveling through love bug country...!

I just used plain ol' car wash stuff. I agree that some wax will help protect the paint.
