Not many deer over here. I only know of two that are hanging around the house until hunting season is past I don't see squat for droppings anywhere like I did couple years back.

Sorry but you're WAY off, I have had a truck load of NY city folks walk down my drive and tell me they were going to hunt in my back yard because they saw deer from the road!!! Guns loaded aimed and ready to start shooting{towards house } I told them NO, they said they bought a hunting lic, and that that gave them permission to hunt where ever. They had NO clue as to proper hunting and were VERY unsafe . Once I got them to leave I followed and watched them tresspass on other folks land . Happens every year in this area lazy people shooting towards homes and road hunting, just read last years hunting accidents!!! Kids were shot in there own beds by these supposed safe hunters your braging about. Now are hunter in general unsafe NO. Can a few bad apples spoil the batch you bet your______. I hunt every year and get my share of meat, but I also respect fellow humans, land, and the animals I'm after

When someone or a group of folks are unsafe and hurt others and I say something I do not believe that makes me an extremist. I care very highly about hunting rights in this country and feel that anytime a true hunter can see something wrong they should speak up. Or maybe if we all just turn a blind eye the problem will just heal itself?????

You live in a nice area though. While working for myself I spent some time cruising timber and laying out wood every year down around Cranberry Lakeup or sometimes in the Canton area, and in the Boonville region.

With all the dairy farms and open country it always reminded me of what southern Maine USED to look like, before it became a suburb of Boston.


How's the moose population looking down there? Think they'll ever let you hunt them?

It is sad when a few morons ruin something that means so much to others. For me hunting is a way of life. I won't buy beef anymore because of all the garbage they add to it. So if my family wants meat{which we love} then we rely on venison, fish etc.

I believe the moose population is still growing {slowly} but have not heard to much about it this year.

Well opening weekend passed here with no kills on our lease. With Texas new buck rule of spikes or 13" spread (outside ears) there will be fewer bucks killed here in East Texas. I am on a new local lease this year and they (lease manager) put in a no doe rule this year also. Many hunters on the lease may not get a deer this year. Seeing a fair amount of younger bucks around on friends game camera. Only one seen (on camera) that would be real close to a legal buck.

The back of my 12 acre place backs up to the Trinity Wildlife Refuge and I have been trying hard to draw a few of the deer out of there to my side of the fence. Not much luck so far with the deer but the hogs have no problem crossing the property line.

I did put up a game camera this weekend to see what might be stopping by. So far just picks of the hogs and a few coons.

Uncle Doug, there needs to be some serious hunting done on wild hogs. They reproduce like rabbits! Sounds as if East Texas has it's share according you and Eddie. As you already know hogs do some serious damage to crop land and wildlife habitat. I used to actually pay money to hunt wild hogs but don't anymore. Extreme measures need to be taken even going as far as taking "wet" sows. Seems in-humane to some but sometimes drastic situations calls for drastic measures.

Nice deer! I havent had a chance to hunt yet, here in Tn season opened in Sept and closes in Jan -- wish I was in Unit L, they can get 3 does a day! Which of course is all the counties around me! LOL Good luck to you all hope you get some good venison!
RalphVA can you give the meat away? Lots of unemployed nowadays could use some budget stretching and it beats shooting em and leaving em!

I agree, This part of the state still has a lot of farm land. The farm losses to ferel hogs is huge every year. Some farmers do allow hunters to come in a shoot hogs but many do not. Now days there are not enough hunters willing to seek out these places to hunt them for free. We could trap them year round if we had a way to dispose of the meat. Most meat packers do not accept ferel hogs anymore in Texas. It's a do it your self job now days.

I sure don't want armed morons on my place. Any time you hear such comments as,"I didn't see any thing but made a couple "sound shots" you are listening to an idiot.

For those unfamiliar with the term "SOUND SHOT" it is when some bozo hears a sound and shoots at it thinking it may get a deer. I don't want to be anywhere around folks like that.

Here in south central Oklahoma plenty of deer are weighed in at under 100lbs. I heard some seed stock from Colorado was introduced to increase size some. I have seen individuals that would run way over 200lbs and suspect they were not native.

I haven't seen more than 4 deer in a group this fall on my property, down significantly from a few years ago. Plenty of turkey though in flocks of 12 or more.
